In my neighborhood, Chinese old-ladies are picking up and collecting empty cans and bottles. The terrible thing is that they open and search for garbage bags that come out of your home.

うちの近所では、中国人の老女が空き缶や空き瓶を探して、集めています。ひどいのは、家庭から出るゴミ袋まで開けてそれを探すことです。

They sell it to a nearby store for money. But it shouldn’t be a big deal.

彼らはその収穫を近所の店に売ってお金を得ます。が、大した額ではないはずです。

Such a scene reminds me of Millet’s Gleaners.

そんな光景は、ミレーの落穂拾いを思い出させます。

Pick up the fallen harvest from the harvested field.

収穫の終わった畑から、落ちた収穫物を拾う。

However, I wonder, these ladies are feeling like this.

でも、私はこの老齢な中国人女性の気持ちは、こんな風かな?と、思う。

This is a painting of Jules Breton (1827~1906). It’s a painting of Gleaners. It’s the same theme as Millet. But, this one got more!

ジュールブルトンの落穂拾いの絵。ミレーのと同じ主題です。が、収穫量が違います。これは、もう大漁です!

They carry a lot of empty cans and bottles.

彼女らは沢山の空き缶と空き瓶を運んでいきます。
