Last night, I couldn’t sleep because I had started to think about the spy women I have to draw.
昨夜、私が描くスパイの女性について考え始めたので、眠れませんでした。
Therefore, I end up baking a pineapple cake and cooked Japanese poke curry.
そのため、私はパイナップルケーキを焼いて、日本風のポークカレーを作りました。
I went to bed 2am.
午前２時に床につきました。
Today, ダン蔵 delighted with pineapple cake. However, curry is by far the best at the East 4th Street Japanese restaurant I take out. Said ダン蔵.
今日、ダン蔵はパイナップルケーキを喜びました。が、カレーは、私が時々テイクアウトする、東４丁目のジャパニーズレストランの方が断然うまい。と、ダン蔵は言いました。
I agreed with his idea.
同感でした。
I want to eat the rest of the pineapple cake with vanilla ice cream tomorrow.
残りのパイナップルケーキは、明日、バニラアイスクリームと一緒に食べたい。

I love ダン蔵, therefore, I have been making his portraits.
私はダン蔵が大好きなので、ダン蔵の肖像画を描いてしまいます。
Last year there was an exhibition of those paintings.
去年、それらの絵の展覧会がありました。
This image is the installation view of the exhibition.
この写真は展覧会の設置風景です。
Apparently it was because of that, but I was invited to a group exhibition. The theme is spy.
そのせいだったらしいのですが、ある、グループ展に招待されました。テーマはスパイです。
Draw portraits of women who were spies.
スパイだった女性たちの肖像画を描くのです。
The theme was just the theme, and I couldn’t quite start drawing, so I read books like spy books. And it’s CORVID-19, and I was relaxing because I thought the exhibition would be cancelled.
テーマがテーマだけに、なかなか、描き始められずに、スパイの本とか、読んでました。で、コロナだし、私は、展覧会はキャンセルになるだろうと思い、のんびりしてました。
However, I am now feeling a lot of pressure to meet the deadline.
しかし、わたしは今、締め切りに間に合わせる為、大変なプレッシャーを感じてます。
Since I was little, I didn’t like my kindergarten and schools.
私は幼い頃から、幼稚園や学校が嫌いでした。
I was not good at authority, being ordered, or acting in groups.
権威とか、命令されることとか、団体行動が苦手でした。
And yet it was a mistake that I went to art college.
それなのに、私が美術の短大に進んだことは間違いでした。
What’s more, that has planted me in an educational background complex.
その上、そのことが、私に学歴コンプレックスを植え付けました。
That is why, when I happened to find a lecture about ダン蔵 that I had discovered and participated in, I encountered ダン蔵. It was 29 years ago.
それゆえに、たまたま見つけた、ダン蔵のレクチャーを見つけ、参加してしまったのが、ダン蔵との出会いです。29年前です。
I was not a figurative artist. Until I draw ダン蔵.
私は具象画を描く芸術家ではありませんでした。ダン蔵を描くまでは。
That’s why I’m currently painting portraits of spy women.
そのせいで、今、スパイの女性の肖像画を描いてます。

因果応報？
Oh, anyway, it’s all an excuse. I have to draw. That’s it all.
ああ、何にしても、全部言い訳です。私は描かなければなりません。それだけです。

I bought a flower after a long absence. Normally I don’t buy a bouquet. However, the ready-made bouquet I saw today was cute.

My favorite classic musicians’ best 3 are Sergei Rachmaninoff, Maurice Ravel, and Erik Satie.
私のお気に入りのクラシックミュージシャンのベスト3は、セルゲイラフマニノフ、モーリスラヴェル、エリックサティです。
The ranks of these three people change depending on my mood, but now, Sergei Rachmaninoff is the best.
この３人の順位は、私の気分で入れ替わりますが、今は、ラフマニノフが一番です。
When I was still a teenager, I read Francoise Sagan‘s Aimez-vous Brahms? in Japanese.
私がまだ、十代の頃、フランソワーズサガンの「ブラームスはお好き？」を日本語の翻訳で読みました。
I remember that the protagonist’s answer was “Neither.”
主人公の答えは、「どちらでもないわ。」と、言った事を覚えてます。
I really loved the answer.
私はその、彼女の答えを素晴らしいと思いました。
For that reason, at that time, at school, foreigners were clearly yes and no. I was brainwashed.
なぜかというと、その頃、学校では、外国人はyesとnoがはっきりしている。と、洗脳されてたからです。
I was very impressed to learn that foreigners have ambiguity.
外国人にも曖昧さがあることを知って、感激したのです。

ダン蔵’s hair has grown considerably. Today, We’ve had our first haircut since a pandemic: at our usual New Ocean hair salon, with our usual stylist Michael.
ダン蔵の髪は相当伸びました。今日は、パンデミック以来初めてヘアカットができました。いつものニューオーシャンで、いつものマイケルです。
We were pleased to see each other again.
私たちは再会をお互いに喜びました。
The cost of haircuts went up. The price of ダン蔵’s cost is from $17 to $20. For me, from $20 to $23.
ヘアカットの料金は上がっていました。ダン蔵のが＄17から＄２０に。私のは＄２０から＄２３に。
Even if you do that, it’s cheap.
それにしたって、安いです。

ダン蔵 donates to various places, but today, he received a present from Habitat for Humanity, which he donated the other day.
ダン蔵は、いろんな所に募金するんですが、今日、ダン蔵が先日募金した、Habitat for Humanityからプレセントが届きました。
The name of this dog is Hammer. この犬の名前はHammerです。
ダン蔵 does not want such a thing. However, the feeling of the sender gives us a smile.
ダン蔵はこういうものは求めていません。しかし、送る側の、気持ちが私たちに笑顔をくれます。
Humans are basically acting in good faith.
人間は基本的に善意で行動しているのです。
But there are many failures. でも、失敗も数多く見受けられます。
Especially the American police people. 特に、アメリカの警察の人々。
The news about blacks is not only their problems, as ダン蔵 was once killed by them.
ダン蔵も彼らに一度殺されかかったので、黒人のニュースは人ごとではありません。

ダン蔵 has a great collection of vinyls and CDs.
ダン蔵はたくさんのレコードとCDを持ってます。
In the collection, there are many Lucinda Williams too. I quite like her music. But I never see her on TV. Today, I saw her first time at The Late Show Stephen Colbert on YouTube.
コレクションにはルシンダ・ウィリアムズもたくさんいます。 私は彼女の音楽がわりと好きです。 でもテレビで彼女を見たことはありませんでした。 今日、私は彼女をYouTubeのスティーブンコルバートのレイトショーで初めて見ました。
She was older than I expected.
彼女は私が思ってたより、年を取ってました。
However, how wonderful to keep doing her own job so many years.
それにしても、なんて素晴らしいんだろう。彼女が何年も自分の仕事を続けている事。
